Nick is currently cycling the 2000+ miles along the coast between Perth and Adelaide, and if he has time (and stamina) he’ll keep going on to Melbourne. He set off from Perth in March 2012.
You can follow his exploits on his Velo Solo, his new blog where he reports on his travels, his adventures in wine making and various other exploits. We’re looking forward to seeing all the zines he’s going to be making when he gets back later this year.

It’s official. I’m going to Toronto Comic Arts Festival! I’ve got sufficient things lined up that it looks like I can just about afford it. I’m incredibly excited. I’m even eagerly working away at Smoo #5 to see if I can’t get that finished in time…
Anyway, as well as selling my own comics at TCAF, Ian Williams and I will be running a panel discussing the relationship between comics and depictions of mental health. We’ll also be teaching a class along the same lines in the Department of Biomedical Communication, and I’ll be giving a paper to the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto drawn from my PhD (which hasn’t got anything to do with comics, but there we go). More information on these events nearer the time.
I’m still soliciting for donations to help cover table/travel/accommodation costs, in exchange for comics, hand-written letters and drawings. However, if you fancy more bang for your buck, you can always check out my shop to see if there’s any comics you might like to purchase, including the newly published Smoo #4.

In November 2011, Things in Panels took part in the #30DaysComics challenge. The task was set by Derik Badman and required us to draw a comic each day. Nick took the time to write and draw one long story ‘Unmanned Manned Craft’. It tells a strange story of time-travel, doppelgangers, cardboard taxis and time-bending sci-fi. You can read that on his website, starting here.
Simon used his time to explore a growing interest in abstract comics, turning out a set of loosely-autobiographical works, mostly in pencil. He also completed a piece about the mythology of hares and a travelogue of time spent in Morocco. You can read them all on his website.
One of Simon’s pages also appears in Madinkbeard #1, Derik Badman’s new zine.
